FOUNDER / CLINICIAN / RESEARCHER

Koichi Ishihara

More than thirty years of acupuncture practice, returning repeatedly to the classical record.

Wisdom Terra began with a clinical problem: practitioners often hold several models in mind, yet the written record compresses that reasoning into a single conclusion. Koichi Ishihara founded the project to make that hidden process recordable, comparable and open to criticism.

From an early practice to a long apprenticeship

Ishihara opened his acupuncture practice at the age of twenty-two. Over the following decades he learned through clinical work, teachers who insisted on reading source texts, and Japanese traditions of acupuncture and Kampo scholarship. His study repeatedly returned to the Huangdi Neijing, Shanghan lun, Nanjing and later Japanese medical writings—not as objects of reverence alone, but as records that must be read against the body and against one another.

Why propose another framework?

MLMN was not proposed because East Asian medicine lacks theories. It was proposed because it has many. Zang-Fu, qi-blood-fluid, Six Conformations, Sanjiao, meridian and temporal accounts can overlap without being identical. The practical question is how to retain their differences, document the reasoning that links them and revise the record after treatment response.

Wisdom Terra's direction

Clinical reasoning

Develop records that distinguish observation, interpretation, operation and update.

Classical-source infrastructure

Connect searchable text to inspected images and clearly labelled editorial stages.

Open criticism

State limitations and invite researchers and clinicians to challenge definitions and assumptions.

International dialogue

Present Japanese clinical and textual work in English without erasing its historical context.

A personal view of health

Ishihara also continues physical training. He regards the still, regulatory work often emphasised in East Asian medicine and the dynamic demands of movement as complementary ways of asking the same question: what allows a person to live with greater capacity over time?
